Two sources, two numbers

142.0–142.0 deaths per 100,000 live births two sources differ by 0.0%

Why do these differ, and what each source reported

World Bank/WHO-UNICEF-UNFPA-World Bank-UNDESA (MMEIG) is a modelled estimate; DHS reports a direct survey estimate for the seven years preceding each survey round, which carries wide confidence intervals given how rare maternal deaths are in a household survey sample. UN SDG 3.1.1 (SH_STA_MORT) is the same MMEIG estimate the World Bank republishes and matched it near-exactly for every Nepal year checked (e.g. 142.0 vs 142.00527 in 2023) -- treat it as confirming World Bank rather than as an independent check.

Caveats

Modelled estimate (MMEIG); DHS survey estimate has wide confidence intervals due to the rarity of maternal deaths in any single survey sample.
